Well my first full week of being back in Michigan has been so crazy, hectic and busy. From getting school work done to throwing a going away party for my husband. I had the pleasure of baby sitting all the wonderful kids in my life that I've missed so much, I have read numerous books to my nephew Landon, my girlfriends new baby Taylor, and of course to my own little one. Landon takes two naps a day and insists that I sit and read with him before each one, and his bedtime. I just love that little guy. This week should be a little more calm and relaxing so I will be setting some time aside for my own reading, time to relax! Hope everyone had a great weekend!

A camping we will go...

Well this week I put my book, "The Choice" on hold. In just a few short hours we will be on our way to home sweet Michigan! Miss Olivia's first request? Camping in Papa's back yard. In preparation for Olivia's camping trip she had the idea to go to the library and find all the books she could about camping. How can you say no to such a sweet request?!  Off to the library we went and found a lot of great kids camping books. A few being, "Good Night, Animals" by Lena Arro, "Duck Tent" by Lynn Berry and Hiroe Nakata, and Miss Olivia's personal favorite, "Olivia Goes Camping". Now Olivia knows how to make smores and also what sort of animals come out at night.  I love that she looks to books for information, it made me really proud when she came to me with this idea! Now she's so close to going to Papa's house, pink tent in tow along with her Thomas the Train lantern.

This past week I started to read, "The Choice" by Nicholas Sparks. Who doesn't love a good Nicholas Sparks book, right? This book is about a veterinarian named Travis and the romance that blossoms between he and his neighbor, Gabby. Gabby had moved to the small town in North Carolina hoping to get a proposal from her boyfriend until her and Travis fall completely in love with each other. Travis fills her life with excitement and her life does a 180. I like Nicholas Sparks books, not because I think the unlikely love between his characters is realistic, I love his books because they aren't really realistic. I spend all day long in reality so when I get in my bed and read for some quiet time, that's when reality stops, no more dishes, paying bills, homework, or worrying. Just a great unrealistic, cliche love story. I've read this book before so I already know what happens in the end, I don't want to give anything away but I will say Travis has to make a huge decision for his life and the lives of his family and it will most likely leave you in tears right along with Travis.  

This week, I'm still reading Marilyn Monroe, I really like reading about her dedication to her work since a lot of people called her a flake. This biography also has a really great theory on her death and it seems to all fit together. I do not believe Monroe's death was politically motivated because of the supposed affair with the Kennedys. I also do not believe Monroe killed herself, I have read and researched so much and really believe someone should have been held accountable for her untimely death. In this book, there are quotes as well as testimony from people in her life. Even though Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio were no longer married at the time of her death, he still insists on keeping fresh flowers at her burial site.

This week I've been reading, "Marilyn Monroe The Biography" by Donald Spoto
I've had this book for about 4 years now, I don't read it cover to cover, I like to choose a chapter and go from there. Since sixth grade I have been interested in and have collected Marilyn Monroe memorabilia. I have books, purses, ornaments, signed photos, signed playboys and a whole lot more. I'm not really sure what led me to this but I do know it started in sixth grade art class when we had to sketch a picture of someone and I chose her. The biography tells the story of her early life, all the way to her death. Marilyn's death has always been a mystery, perhaps that is part of the reason it intrigues me. In this biography, nobody is painting her to be how a lot of people or writers perceive her, as dumb and uneducated. I find her to be dedicated to her work, she worked really hard to be an actress, and even harder because she wasn't taken seriously. Her story is a sad one complete with a mother that didn't want her and a forced teen marriage, leading her to feel lonely an unimportant. To anyone that is also interested in her life and in her death, I would encourage you to read this specific biography.
